Using My Voice to Make a Difference
"My commitment to advocacy is deeply personal. When my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, I became his caregiver as he valiantly battled the disease for six months before we lost him. His journey inspired me to use my voice and media experience to help raise awareness and support for others facing pancreatic cancer. I now proudly volunteer as a San Diego Media Relations Chair for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).
My mother’s journey with Alzheimer’s Disease has inspired another important part of my advocacy work. Through my experience caring for her, I became passionate about raising awareness, supporting families and shining a light on the resources available to those living with dementia. I have used my media background to support the Alzheimer’s Association of San Diego and George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Center Town Square, helping share their stories and the vital work they do in our community.
My advocacy has also extended to people with disabilities, including work with United Cerebral Palsy San Diego and the Autism Society San Diego."
Why I do this
"These aren’t simply causes I represent—they are causes that have touched my family and my heart. I believe in using the power of storytelling, media and relationships to give people a voice, raise awareness and create meaningful connection."
